大致原则如下：　　

■英美国家的许多节日名称的构成不用Festival，而用Day，此时其前通常不用冠词：　　

Christmas Day 圣诞节　　

Thanksgiving Day 感恩节　　

Mother’s Day 母亲节　　

Easter Day 复活节日　　

■我国与西方相似的或通用的一些节日名称译成英语时常用Day，不用Festival，此时其前通常也不用冠词。如：　　

New Year’s Day 元旦 　　

National Day 国庆节 　　

Children’s Day 儿童节　　

■我国传统节日的译名通常用Festival构成，且一般要用定冠词。如：　　

the Spring Festival 春节 　　

the Lantern Festival 元宵节　　

the Mid-autumn Festival 中秋节

■应说：May Day is the first day of May. 通常不用介词 on。May Day 前不用 the，但 the first day of May 中要用 the。
