表示鱼类及其他某些动物的名词通常单复数同形。例如：fish、sheep、buffalo（水牛）、deer（鹿）等多用单数形式。但当fish表示多种鱼时则需加-es，如：He caught several fishes in the river.

某些表示人的名词，以-ese结尾，表示民族的名词，如：Chinese、Japanese、Vietnamese（越南人）等。

某些量词或单位名词位于数词或其他表示数量的词之后，通常是单数和复数同形，如：hundred、thousand、million、dozen等。举例来说：There are a dozen eggs in the basket.

Chinesen. 中国人一词中，Chinesen. 作主语时，谓语动词需使用单数形式。例如：The Chinese is proficient in English.

cattle（牛群）用作复数名词。作为主语时，谓语动词用复数形式。例如：All his cattle were grazing in the field.

police通常表示“警察部队”或“警方”，是一个集体名词。例如：The police are investigating the witnesses.

poultry指的是“家禽”，包括鸡、鸭、鹅等。指这些活体动物时，通常用作复数名词。例如：Where are your poultry？ Poultry is harder to come by nowadays than beef.
