What If Everyone Is At The Top?

“One is always trying to climb higher, while water usually flows downwards,” is a translation of Chinese slang meaning that people always trying to be better than one other while in comparison, some people are similar to water, always give up, and becoming worse, whether in education or career, everyday. I believe in this statement, but there is something that I would like to ask the person who said it.

Before we even get into the main idea, I would like to prove the statement. Why are we going to school? Why are we fighting to get a better job? That’s because we don’t admit defeat, we always trying to be better, whether in life or in career. One another reason why we fight is that we are trying to be better than other people. But that’s not everyone. Some people doesn’t want to fight, whether because they are too lazy or they have accepted defeat, and they stay sulk and becoming further and further from other people everyday.

Now, let’s see my questions. First, let’s see something: We all know that when a building is being build, workers will first dig a big hole in the ground, that’s the basement of the building, it’s mandatory, then they can start building the middle, the walls, and the tops. You see, the laborers of a company are the base of the company. Without them, the company will crush, just like the building will crush if you don’t built basements. And of course, you, the CEO, is at the top, like the roof, the main parts of the building.

Do you agree that the salary of a worker is lower than a manager’s? You better. Because that the salary is higher, so people are trying to get better job to earn more money. Do you see where I’m getting at?

Here comes my question: “What if everyone is at the top?” In other words, what if everyone is the CEO of a company? Smart ones should have known the answer already. Yes, the company will crush, because the orders given by the CEOs will give to nobody, no one will put it into action for him or her. For example, there is this general of an army, he has lost a battle, along with his soldiers. Now, he is just with himself. Can he still give out orders? No. Can he still fight and win against an army of 10 thousand people? Likely not.

Same reason, that if everyone is at the top, and no one is at the bottom, then everyone would be at the bottom. Do you get it? Let me give you an example: you know about the stacks of wood, don’t you? The ones at the bottom always have more than the ones above it. Let’s say that you have a bottom of 2 trunks of wood, and you have a top of 1 trunk of wood. If you remove the 2 trunks of wood located at the bottom, what happens to the 1 trunk of wood at the top? It will fall down. See where I’m getting at? If everyone is the CEO in the company, then everyone becomes the laborers because only they and give orders to themselves now. Don’t you agree?

These are all personal opinions, and thank you for reading my fabulous essay.

Peer Pressure or no Peer Pressure

Peer pressure has become a common problem in the school, maybe even in the adult world. Many people say peer pressure is a good thing to do, others say the opposite. No matter how it is, how to deal with it is a big problem. For me, I personally think peer pressure is a good thing to do, as if I can control how much pressure I’m going to put on others. You may opposite my idea and wonder how will I do it, and you will know after you finished reading the article.

I find that some times putting peer pressure is a good way to fight against bullies. Normally, bullies are the ones afraid of others who are stronger than them and only bully the ones which are weaker than them. So, if we can find or choose a stronger/proper person to put peer pressure on the bullies, they will get scared, so they will stop bullying others for, they afraid of the stronger ones will revenge on them if they keep on bullying others.

I some times have seen people giving peer pressure on some one else to increase their will to do something. Example, I have got 100% on one test/quiz, and I shared result with you. You have only 80%, under this peer pressure given by yourself, you will try harder to study and learn more. I personally have the same experience. It was in China, maybe you don’t know, but in China, every school’s every student studies their guts out for a 100% on a test, although there is still people fail. Anyway, back to me. I have once got a 98% on a math test, another classmate in the same row of seat with me got 100%, forget about the pressure put on me by my parents, I also giving pressure on myself to get perfect, and I got it on the next test. In fact, there is not just me, there is every child in China, get success by doing this to themselves.

In any case, I also agree that the peer pressure can also be a bad thing. For example, someone, let’s say a bully, said to a kid: “Hey kid, if you don’t vote for xxx tomorrow in the election, you’ll know what happens.” Then the kid got scared, but he doesn’t want to vote for the ones he don’t like, and he was thinking all day and all night, forgot the homework, not able to sleep, just to figure out what to do. In that way, peer pressure is a very bad thing to have.

However, based on all the things I have written above. I decided the peer pressure can be both a good thing and bad thing, depends on you, and on the situation. We can’t predict, but it’s controllable. In any how, my points of view is just my personal ideas, it doesn’t mean I’m in a “peer pressure” group or something, and I strongly recommend everyone, that although peer pressure can do good in some cases, but it still wasn’t a good way to solve lots of problems, and I suggest everyone not to use it unless it’s the only way.

Appling for I.B. in Victoria Park Collegiate Institute

My name is Zhangxi Feng, but I would like you to call me by my English name: Jesse.

I’m here to apply for the International Baccalaureate Program provided at Victoria Park CI. I’m from Donview Middle School and I’m about to graduate from grade 8. I’ve heard that I.B. program in Victoria Park was good and was able to teach me more than academic classes, so I decided to give it a try.

I want to learn more before I go to university, because I know the university lessons are going to be much harder. The only two kinds of programs provided around my living area are the I.B. of Victoria Park and the A.P. of the George S. Henry, I have learned from a friend of mine at Victoria Park that the I.B. was amazing for it will teach me more than I needed and it’s also very hard to understand and learn the lessons taught. It might be hard for me, but I believe I can still keep up, just like my motto: “Try for the best, even you didn’t get to the top, at least you won’t be too far away.”

Another reason for me to try the I.B. program is that the academic lessons are too easy for me. It won’t give enough knowledge I need. Lucky there is I.B. program, I can learn more with it. Maybe high school lessons are harder, even in academic, but I know if I don’t apply for it now, I will regret it later.

Maybe my grades on the report card didn’t show that I was a good student, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have the knowledge to be one. All I didn’t do is that I didn’t take the lessons now seriously. I often let some marks slip away even I know the right answer at tests and quizzes. Of course, I didn’t do that on purpose, but I was not concentrated on it because I think it’s too easy. So in the opposite, when the lessons get harder, like what it will happen in I.B. prep., I will be serious about it because I knew the knowledge I have now won’t help me much longer, and I will not let any marks slip away easily. So join I.B. preparation isn’t just allow me to learn more, but also let me regain my serious attitude on studying.

As you can see on my term 1 report card of grade 8, the only subject I have trouble on is Language. That’s the only subject I didn’t have an average of 80%. That’s because I just got out of ESL and I still didn’t get use to the normal course yet. As you can see, my other subjects all got marks 80 or more, if my English is really bad, then why Language is the only subject that’s bad? Math, science, music and P.E. can understand, because they don’t need too much English, but my history and French marks are just amazing for such a low grade on Language.

As I have written above, I’m capable of study in harder lessons and I’m suited in International Baccalaureate Program of studies.

应用为i.b.

我听说i.b.
