如果根据意群，朗读时可以按照下列方式在意群之间稍微停顿一下：

Last Sunday evening, most of my classmates went to Chrismas party held by Mr. John.

Last Sunday evening,/ 是时间状语

most of my classmates /是主语

went to Chrismas party /是谓语

held by Mr. John.是定语

又如：During the Spring Festival, as a rule, the Chinese people have a get-together or visit friends.

如果根据意群，朗读时停顿应该是：

During the Spring Festival,/ as a rule,/ the Chinese people /have a get-together /or visit friends.
